Why should I comb my hair? Boris Johnson doesn’t.

I have a mentee who is currently doing his master’s degree from Newcastle University.

I had a Zoom call with him in the morning at 10:00 am. When I joined the call, he looked like he just got up and literally joined the call.

I asked him, is that the case. But he responded that he is awake since 07:30ish.

So, I asked him why you haven’t combed your hair. I guess this simple question offended him so much that he started arguing with me on. Why should I have to comb my hair? Boris Johnson doesn’t.

And then he started listing things about Boris, what he has achieved in his life, without focusing on his hairstyle. He said:

  1. He is now the prime minister of the United Kingdom.
  2. Furthermore, he is the only prime minister in history who has achieved Brexit successfully.
  3. He and his government faced the ultimate pandemic and UK is still in good shape etc.,

Well, first I was really confused with all three points he made.

Let's talk about it in a little more details.

Boris Johnson is now* the prime minister of the United Kingdom

That is absolutely correct. There is no doubt about it.

But what was the reason behind it?

Well, for the sake of this argument, I can always say that Theresa May has resigned.

And then the Conservative Party had nobody available who could face this challenge, so Boris Johnson stepped in.

Now, absolutely, I admire Boris for his courage. But can you say with confidence that if this was not the case and UK had not been facing the Brexit, would someone else has stepped in?

And if someone did, who would be him/her/other?

Some of you might say; I am not being fair here, but would you imagine Boris being UK’s prime minister without Brexit?

My opinion is; he had a great opportunity. Nobody was able to take it, so he just took the risk? Agree? Disagree? Feel free to let me know in your comments below.

That is nothing against his ability to lead the country. It’s just what I think happened.

Now, let's discuss the second point.

Boris Johnson, is the only prime minister in history who has achieved Brexit Successfully

Well, we never had anything like Brexit before.

So when it comes to history. Yes, it happened first time.

It’s exactly like

  1. Christmas of 2020 happened one time in history.
  2. Libya’s flag was green between 1977 and 2011.
  3. The dot “.” on top “i” and “j” used to represent title in a name.

I am not saying Brexit was easy.

I am not even debating if Brexit was a good or bad thing for UK

I am just saying, who so ever had been holding the Prime Minister’s position during Brexit time. It had to be done.

Obviously, Boris did a great Job.

Now I have to pay £1.62 for per litre fuel at BP close to my place. I can prove this with a picture if anyone wants to see.

This pushes us to the third point.

Boris and His government faced the ultimate pandemic and UK is still in good shape

Now, I salute our NHS, who did a fantastic job while our country was facing this pandemic.

I have a friend, and she worked more than 16 hours, when needed.

So there is absolutely no doubt that pandemic hit us badly, and we are still fighting with it.

But, my question is what UK government did differently which kept us in good shape?

  1. Is that the purchase of RTPCR kits from China?
  2. Is that lack of medical staff in NHS?
  3. Or is it the lack of PPE kit?

I am sure there are many things. And I would love to add some into this article if you provide me some data in the comments.

Looking forward to it.

Now let's get back to the topic, I require your help to make my mentee understand why he should comb his hair.

But I also require your help to make him understand with the same justification.

So basically; Why Boris Johnson should comb his hair? You have any pointers for me?
