When it comes to event hosting.
We all know that it is a very tedious task. Although there are platforms available online which can make our lives a little bit easier.
That said, the first. Google Search done online will show you. There are two big giants in the market.
Number 1: Eventbrite is a platform where you can manage your events, sell tickets, and keep a ledger of your attendees, easily on the Eventbrite portal. But when it comes to managing a small community. The first platform that comes to mind is meetup.
When you combine both of these, you will get the best result because
A, you can manage your group, or come with a small community on meetup.com, and
B, you can manage your events, and sell your event tickets on Eventbrite.
But have you ever thought about how much money you end up spending while using these two platforms?
Well, let me tell you.
Meetup Cost / Charges / Fee
First thing first, When you start a group on meetup. It charges you $16.49 per month. In order to run a group on meetup.
That means you end up paying somewhere around $198 for the year.
But thats not it. Meetup recently slapped. $2 fee for every one who will RSVP to any events. If you want more information look at this article at theverge:
Meetup wants to charge users $2 just to RSVP for events — and some are furious
Eventbrite Cost / Charges / Fee
On the other hand, Eventbrite charges you on per ticket sales basis, for example, they have three different packages
1. Essential: This package charge you.
£0. 49, pounds +3.5% Commission. plus 20% UK VAT
2.Professional: This package charges you.
£0. 49, pounds +6.5% Commission. plus 20% UK VAT
And the premium package does not even have open pricing, you need to contact them to get the pricing for it.
So in total…
To make it easier if you sell a hundred tickets, and each ticket costs 10 pounds, you will end up paying £101, pounds for the sale of a hundred tickets. So basically, you will make £1000 pounds, but out of that thousand pounds, you’ll end up paying £101 GBP to Eventbrite.
Now let’s talk about what features, you get by paying that much money.
We all know that meetup sucks in terms of their UI.
There are lots of negative reviews about meetup UI on Trustpilot.
But when it comes to their community engagement, they have a big community of three plus million people on meetup.
And that’s what makes it different.
Whereas, managing groups and attendees for your event is not that easy as it looks like on meetup.
The other features you get on meetup for paying a hefty $16 a month is you can actually send emails directly to your group members, via the meetup group management feature — user interface.
This feature helps you to connect with your group members directly.
There are other features like group discussions, group photos, etc.
When it comes to Eventbrite, they have a really good user interface for you.
You can create customized event ticket seating arrangements, as well as much more with respect to the layout of your event on Eventbrite.
This makes it really easy for you to manage your event, it is very well structured, and it has a feature which helps you to limit the number of seats with the different seating arrangement.
But it is of no use. When you are hosting a generic event like a social gathering or party at a bar.
And again, for each event, it cost you. Approximately £101 pounds, subject to selling a hundred tickets. So all in all, if I run a group of 500 people, and I host an event once a month. With 20 to 30 ticket sales in a year of time, I will end up paying more than $400.
In fee combined to meet up, as well as Eventbrite.
So what if I tell you that there is a way you can get 90% of the meetup, and Eventbrite features for 10% of the price.
Yes, that’s actually true.
Well, there are multiple alternatives for meetup and Eventbrite available online.
They all have their own USP’s and pricing structure. But the best one, I would say, would be bylde.com
You only pay £24 (currently they are running a flat 50% off £12) pounds a year to host a group or a community.
There is no fee for people to joining this platform so they can just log in, via their social media account, and join your group.
You can send direct emails to your group members via their online UI.
You can host your events on bylde.com.
And it will cost you only 5% commission which actually includes your payment gateway fee. So that means, ultimately you end up paying less than 1.5% Commission.
This is 90% less than what you end up paying to Eventbrite and meetup together.
